Senior HSET Field Specialist

 

JOB SUMMARY

The Senior Health, Safety, Environmental, and Training (HSET) Field Specialist is responsible for planning, implementing, and maintaining the occupational health, safety, environmental, and training programs to ensure operational excellence throughout the Company. This position works with the HSET Director, department management, personnel, and customers to resolve issues and develop policies and procedures for maintaining a safe work environment for Company field operations. 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES

      Identify and communicate personnel training requirements to management.

      Provide training to personnel to meet industry training requirements.

      Investigate and document incidents and unsafe workplace conditions and practices.

      Develop corrective actions and support follow-up with Operations Management to prevent reoccurrence of incidents and to resolve safety hazards identified at work locations.

      Coordinate and perform on-site Company and customer HSET audits.

      Provide support to Operations as needed, working with project Superintendent to meet the needs of the project.

      Develop and work with Operations to implement solutions to mitigate identified workplace safety hazards.

      Research, develop, and implement HSET policies and procedures in coordination with the HSET Director, HSET Manager, Operations Management and customers.

      Plan, implement, and maintain programs to meet HSET requirements.

      Coordinate DOT and Non-DOT Drug and Alcohol Testing Program for Company personnel at supported sites and perform drug and alcohol testing where determined necessary to do so

      Prepare incident reports and update all applicable databases and spreadsheets to maintain accurate records of incidents, manage corrective actions, and to analyze data for trending purposes.

      Maintain and distribute regulatory compliance information to support compliance communication and interpretation for field personnel and Operations Management

      Provide case management support and coordination of care for ill or injured employees.

      Assist department managers in preparing written appeals for occupational health, safety, and environmental violations.

      Maintain basic understanding of Alaska Workers’ Compensation Law and OSHA record keeping guidelines.

      Other Duties as assigned.

      Ensure personnel comply with Company and customer policies and procedures.

      Provide leadership and education in AES zero-incident safety culture and assume personal accountability and responsibility for safe work practices in all projects, activities, and operations.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE

       Have an Associate degree in occupational safety industrial hygiene, or safety-related field

      A combination of five (5) years education, HSET credential (OHST, CHST, NEBOSH), and safety experience may be considered in lieu of an associate degree.

      Proficiency with Microsoft Office and database management software required.

      Possess a valid US driver’s license

      Have or be able to acquire the North Slope Training Cooperative (NSTC) safety training certification

 

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

      Five (5) years or more experience in the oil and gas or construction industry preferred.

      Certified Safety Professional (CSP), Associate Safety Professional (ASP), or Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH) certification is preferred.

WORKING ON THE NORTH SLOPE

While working on the North Slope of Alaska, your lodging and food will be provided to you.  All camps provide warm meals and options to grab a quick lunch or snack from the spike rooms.   Rooms vary from single status to shared rooms where your roommate may work the opposite shift.  Wi-Fi and Internet is free and available within the camp.  Services vary depending upon where you are staying; however, most facilities offer housekeeping, self-serve laundry, commissary, mail, gyms, TV/Theater Room, etc.  Each facility will have their own accommodations and policies that will be reviewed upon on-site orientation.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

A candidate must be able to meet the following non-exclusive requirements:                                                              

      Meet the AES Driving Records and Motor Vehicle Use Policy.

      Take and pass a pre-employment drug test which may include both UA and hair testing. 

      Meet the physical requirements of this position including working in a remote location under arctic conditions.                    

      Required to take and pass a Fit-For-Duty Exam 

      Required to complete and successfully pass a background check. 

      Must be able to obtain and maintain an access badge for the work location.
