The Yard Attendant will perform a variety of manual labor and operations tasks as required by the Shop foreman / lead driver.  This is a full-time regular working Monday through Friday with weekends as needed 8:00 am to 5:00 PM with one our lunch. The position is an entry level position for the North Pacific Fuel - Valdez Heating Oil. The following list of essential job duties is not all inclusive.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES (and other duties as assigned)

  1. Responsible for general maintenance of the grounds and facilities, including sweeping and weeding.
  2. Operate after proper training and certification, forklifts, wheeled tractor along with other powered and non-powered snow and ice removal equipment.
  3. Assist with routine maintenance throughout the facility and dock.
  4. Receive incoming freight into warehouses.
  5. Provide services to customers picking up products from the warehouse
  6. Assist in general construction and painting work, as needed.
  7. Participate in oil-spill response drills and emergencies.
  8. Maintain a clean, safe and organized work area.
  9. Assist Operations and Safety in weekly and monthly inspections of various fixed and mobile equipment.
  10. Periodic overtime, including night shifts, weekends and holidays may be required.
  11. Learn the hazards, safety procedures, and the various components which make up the facilities.  Attendant will be provided with training regarding the facilities hazards, safety procedures and educational materials explaining various components which make up the operations. The training will be computer-based training and fundamental training.
  12. Assist with marine vessel fueling operations (PIC training required)
  13. Snow removal around facility
  14. Assist lead mechanic with duties as assigned including washing trucks before getting serviced.
  15. Obtain minimum class B CDL with all required endorsements
  16. Obtain TWIC credentials. 
  17. Current 40-hour Hazwoper Certification Required.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

  1. High school diploma or equivalent.
  2. Good math skills.
  3. Basic computer skills.
  4. Ability to quickly grasp procedures.
  5. Ability to work and function well with other people in a team environment.
  6. Ability to follow instructions.
  7. Must have and maintain an Alaska driver’s license with a clean driving record. 

LANGUAGE SKILLS

Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of employees or customers.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS

Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.

REASONING ABILITY

Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.  Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

The physical demands described herein are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this position. 

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear.  The employee is frequently required to sit; reach with hands and arms; and to use hands to finger, handle, or feel.  The employee must frequently lift and carry 40 lbs. at least 20 yards. The employee must have the ability to climb. Must be able to perform job functions wearing supplied PPE. Must be able to work in adverse weather conditions (extreme cold and warm weather). Specific vision abilities required by this job include the ability to adjust focus.
